Tech Tool of The Month: Nvidia Shield

When it comes to streaming media players, you have quite a few choices. But there are a few that are consistently mentioned as the best. The Nvidia Shield has been around for a couple of years now, but the recent improvements push it forward into the class of the Apple TV, Roku, and Amazon Fire TV, and maybe above them. Here are a few words from FamilyTech CEO Chris Bergman about his experience with his new Nvidia Shield.

The new Invidia Sheild hit store shelves earlier this year, and it comes with tons of great upgrades. A few that really stand out are Amazon Prime video, Google voice, and the ability to stream movies, TV shows, and games in 4K HDR if you have a 4K HDTV. If you don’t, you still get high-def 1080p quality. And it has all the channels you’d expect like HBO Now, Hulu, and Netflix for streaming just about anything.

It’s also easier to navigate than its competitors and is faster getting from screen to screen than my old Roku.

And it’s great for gaming too. My kids love the ability to play their Android games on a big screen TV and we dig the GeForce Now game subscription option as well which provides unlimited gaming for only $8 a month.

A 16GB Shield runs $199 while a 500GB Pro goes for $299.

I’ve seen plenty of media players that claim to do everything, but the new Nvidia Shield is a true all-in-one solution.
