Getting back into the swing of things

Getting back into the swing of things

The holidays are over, and the kids are back in school but their habits are still on vacation. It’s not unusual to fall out of the habit of doing daily or even weekly chores when your schedule changes dramatically. You may have spent time out of town or just away from the house more than usual during the break. Or you may have decided to be a bit more relaxed when it comes to cracking the chore whip (wait, don’t use a whip) during the holidays.

I know that in my house, we are pretty relaxed on Sundays when it comes to small things like bed making. Actually, I didn’t even set up a reward on ChoreMonster for making the bed on Sundays because I thought that our kids deserved a day off.

During the holidays, every day is like Sunday.

It’s not as if we suddenly decided the kids didn’t have to help us keep the house clean, but since we were so far outside of our normal schedule, the chore routine went down the drain too. Well now that it’s time to get back in the habit, do you have any creative ways to re-focus your kids after some time away from their routine?

I really want to hear from you on this one, so leave a comment here or discuss over on Facebook.

Thanks!

  1. Loving these pictures you’re using for your blog! – In fact – just loving the whole site! I found you while “Googling” around, in an article about “begging for chores,” because of a book I’d just written with almost the same title. We’re all signed up and in test mode and so far, my daughter is lovin life! She especially loves the mobile app with her iPod. I think she’s going to be disappointed when there aren’t any more chores tomorrow (Sunday). Thanks much!

  2. Thanks for finding us Shannon! Glad to hear your daughter likes what she sees so far. Keep us updated on her and your progress.
