Growing Beards For Charity

UPDATE: Week 1

One day, at lunch, the ChoreMonster team was talking about beards and all of a sudden, we had an idea. What if we all grew beards for a good cause. Not only would we get have some fun with the process, but we could also bring awareness to a great cause and hopefully support it a bit financially too. It’s kind of like Movember except it’s just us, and with beards instead of mustaches.

Above, you can see the entire ChoreMonster team as clean shaven as possible. We will be taking regular photos and adding them to this blog post so you can see our progress. We don’t plan to shave until the end of 2013, and a few of these guys will grow some imposing beards.

The cause: We chose Child’s Play for our charity for the Beard-A-Thon, it’s a game industry charity dedicated to improving the lives of children with toys and games in a network of over 70 hospitals worldwide. Obviously, this fits in with what we care about here at ChoreMonster, so it made tons of sense. Here is a little more about Child’s Play.

Child’s Play works in two ways. With the help of hospital staff, we set up gift wish lists full of video games, toys, books, and other fun stuff for kids. By clicking on a hospital location on our map, you can view that hospital’s wish list and send a gift.

Child’s Play also receives cash donations throughout the year. With those cash donations, we purchase new consoles, peripherals, games, and more for hospitals and therapy facilities. These donations allow for children to enjoy age-appropriate entertainment, interact with their peers, friends, and family, and can provide vital distraction from an otherwise generally unpleasant experience.

So, donate to Child’s Play and watch our beards get stranger and stranger.
