Welcome to the Chore Hunger Games! Ok, maybe not, but when I think of the word challenge, it can mean a few different things.
I had to look up the word ‘challenge’ in the dictionary today to make sure I was using it correctly for this post, here are the definitions that I found.
Challenge: Something that by its nature or character serves as a call to battle, contest, special effort, etc.: Space exploration offers a challenge to humankind.
Challenge: A call to fight, as a battle, a duel, etc.
Challenge: Difficulty in a job or undertaking that is stimulating to one engaged in it.
I really wish that when I write about a chore challenge, it was some sort of call to battle or even a duel like the second definition. It would be even more fun if it was a contest or special effort, like space exploration, as cited in the first definition. But no, when I ask you, what is the biggest chore challenge in your home right now, I’m leaning towards definition number three.
That’s not to say it isn’t important, but I guess it would be more fun to be starting a conversation about a challenge to humankind rather than a challenge related to wiping dried up boogers off your kids walls.
However, when it comes to things that are difficult to overcome, we all have plenty. But what I want to hear from you today is this. What is the most difficult thing, chore related, that you have to deal with right now as a parent?
It could be something simple like….I can’t get my kids to remember to mark their chores as complete using ChoreMonster.
Or it could be something that seems larger, like, ‘My kids refuse to make their beds correctly.’
You already know that in my home, consistency, and occasionally losing sight of the plot altogether have been struggles. But what about you?
